Women in the Struggle for Justice: Nurjan Suzer

Strength of Spirit and Commitment to Justice: Nurjan Suzer On the eve of International Women’s Day, we would like to tell the story of a woman who has become a symbol of civic courage and dedication to the struggle for human rights — Nurjan Suzer, a representative of the socio-political organization DVT, led by Murat Klychevich Kurbanov. Nurjan Suzer is a person of remarkable generosity, kindness, and sincere concern for the fate of her people. Over the years of her activist work, she has become one of the most visible Turkmen activists in the United States. In terms of the number of protest actions organized and carried out — including demonstrations in front of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the United States — she is among the most active. Organizing protest actions is difficult and responsible work. Behind every such event stand days and weeks of preparation, numerous organizational details, and significant responsibility. But most importantly, it requires strength of spirit — a quality that not everyone possesses. Not everyone is ready to openly stand up and fight for the rights of their fellow citizens. In circumstances where civil society and solidarity among people remain extremely weak in Turkmenistan and even beyond its borders, such activity can rightfully be called a true civic act of courage. This struggle also carries a deeply personal dimension, as Nurjan Suzer is the aunt of political prisoner Mansur Mingelov, who is serving a sentence based on a fabricated case. On this special day, we sincerely congratulate Nurjan Suzer and wish her strength, patience, and perseverance on this difficult path. May her efforts and dedication ultimately bring the results they deserve. The Human Rights Platform of the Civic Movement “DAYANÇ” / Turkmenistan also expresses its deep gratitude to Nurjan Suzer for her contribution to the development of civil society and the protection of human rights.
