Today, the Halk Maslahaty Meeting Is Taking Place in Turkmenistan Today, 23 September, a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan is taking place. According to MIR 24, approximately 1,500 delegates from different regions of the country have arrived in Ashgabat. Ahead of the meeting, representatives of Turkmen civil society, civic activists, and democratic organizations submitted appeals calling for the Halk Maslahaty to address the real problems faced by the citizens of Turkmenistan and the issues on which people expect concrete solutions from the state. This joint initiative brought together: Dayanç Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement / Turkmenistan; Democratic Choice of Turkmenistan, led by Nurmuhammet Kurbanov; Coordination Council of the Democratic Forces of Turkmenistan, led by Muhammet Deweji Nejat; representatives of civil society and civic activists from Turkmenistan. Today, we are following the Halk Maslahaty meeting with great attention. We want to see whether the voices of citizens will genuinely be heard and whether the issues that citizens themselves consider important and in need of solutions will be reflected in the agenda. The Halk Maslahaty is presented as a forum for discussing key issues concerning the country’s state and societal development. It is therefore particularly important for us to see to what extent today’s meeting will address citizens, their rights, social problems, needs, and expectations, and what concrete solutions will be proposed. We are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the meeting. Tomorrow, we will publish a separate analysis of the Halk Maslahaty: which issues were raised, what decisions were announced, and to what extent they correspond to the problems and demands identified by civil society and citizens themselves ahead of the meeting.
