On March 16–17, 2026, a meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is taking place in Vienna, Austria, where issues of human rights, security, and international cooperation are being addressed. The Human Rights Platform of the civil movement “Dayanch Turkmenistan” has submitted five statements for consideration by the international community, reflecting the most acute and systemic problems faced by citizens of Turkmenistan. The first statement concerns the inability to obtain passports at Turkmen diplomatic missions abroad. Despite the existence of this right in national legislation, in practice thousands of citizens remain without documents, leading to legal vulnerability and restriction of basic rights. The second statement addresses restrictions on freedom of movement and the right to family reunification. Citizens of Turkmenistan face serious barriers that prevent them from freely moving and being reunited with their families, in violation of international human rights standards. The third issue is transnational repression. In recent years, there has been an increase in cases of pressure, persecution, detention, deportation, and enforced disappearances of Turkmen civil activists outside the country. These developments raise serious concerns and require an international response. The fourth statement focuses on access to information. Against the backdrop of rising international tensions, particularly the conflict between Iran and the United States, the need for transparent and timely information is critical. However, citizens of Turkmenistan remain in an information vacuum despite economic pressure, rising prices, environmental risks, and potential security threats. The fifth statement is dedicated to the international campaign “We Want Only Justice,” aimed at drawing attention to the disappearance of two civil activists — Alisher Sakhatov and Abdulla Orusov, who went missing in 2025 in Türkiye. Their whereabouts remain unknown to this day. The Human Rights Platform “Dayanch Turkmenistan” emphasizes that it will continue to systematically raise these issues at the international level, advocating for transparency, justice, and the protection of citizens’ rights. The protection of human rights is not an internal matter of a single country, but a foundation of international security and a sustainable future.
