The Right to Truth — The Foundation of Justice

On the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations, we express our solidarity with all victims of injustice and pay tribute to those who have devoted their lives to the pursuit of truth, dignity, and freedom. The right to truth is not an abstract concept. It is a fundamental human right — the right of every individual to know what happened to their loved ones, who is responsible for violations, and why crimes remain unpunished. This right is essential for justice and for preventing the repetition of such tragedies. Unfortunately, in Turkmenistan, this right is systematically violated. The fate of many individuals remains unknown, and attempts to seek the truth are met with repression and persecution. Today, we must name those who have suffered for the truth: Alisher Sakhatov, Abdulla Orusov, Merdan Muhammedov, Farhad Meymankuliyev, Rovshen Klychev, Serdar Durdalyyev, Saddam Gulamov, Jumasapar Dedebayev, Perhat Genjiev, Maksat Baymyradov, Dowran Imamov, Omurzak Omerkuliev, Azat Isakov, Malikberdy Allamyradov, Umida Bekjanova. These are not just names — they are lives, families, and children still waiting. Many of them have been subjected to enforced disappearances, unlawful detention, forced deportation, and pressure due to their civic position and human rights activities. We emphasize that concealing the truth is a continuation of human rights violations. Without transparency, it is impossible to restore public trust or build a just and lawful state. The Dayanç Human Rights Platform calls on the international community to: demand disclosure of information regarding the fate of these individuals; ensure international monitoring of cases of enforced disappearances; protect activists and their families; hold Turkmenistan accountable to its international human rights obligations. We firmly believe: Truth is not a threat to the state — it is its foundation. Today, we speak aloud what others try to silence. We remember. We demand. We will not remain silent.
