The Dayanç Civil Movement Human Rights Platform Expresses Concern Over the Situation of Jumasapar Dadabayev

The Dayanç Civil Movement Human Rights Platform Expresses Concern Over the Situation of Jumasapar Dadabayev The Dayanç Civil Movement Human Rights Platform expresses serious concern regarding the newly published information about the situation of Karakalpak political prisoner Jumasapar Dadabayev, released by the Turkmen Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. According to the published materials, during a short-term family visit on February 24, 2026, a prison officer reportedly subjected Jumasapar Dadabayev to nationalist insults in the presence of his father. Later, Dadabayev himself reported severe detention conditions, psychological pressure, and violations of his rights inside the prison facility. Particularly significant is the officially published response from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, which confirms that an internal inspection was conducted following Dadabayev’s complaint. The document states that the collected materials were transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Kogon district for a lawful decision. This demonstrates that allegations of possible psychological and physical abuse have already reached the level of formal review by state authorities. For the Dayanç Civil Movement Human Rights Platform, this issue carries special importance. Jumasapar Dadabayev is of Turkmen origin and has repeatedly participated in actions and initiatives supporting Turkmen civil activists and human rights defenders. He openly expressed solidarity with individuals facing persecution, injustice, and human rights violations. For this reason, we are deeply concerned about his fate and sincerely worried about his safety, health, and the protection of his fundamental rights. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Turkmen Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and human rights defender Vitaliy Ponomarev for their important work, their attention to the fate of political prisoners, and for publishing official documents that help provide the international community with objective information about the situation. At a time when the issue of political prisoners and the rights of national minorities remains extremely sensitive, it is critically important that all reports of ill-treatment, discrimination, psychological pressure, or physical abuse be thoroughly and independently investigated in accordance with international human rights standards. History has repeatedly shown that pressure and fear may silence people temporarily, but they cannot destroy human dignity, the memory of a people, or the desire for justice.
