The Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement “DAYANÇ Turkmenistan” expresses serious concern over the ongoing practice of concealing the real socio-economic situation in Turkmenistan. As noted by independent analysts and expert platforms, the authoritarian regime increasingly uses participation in international organizations and forums to create an external image of stability and prosperity that does not reflect the reality inside the country. For many years, the Government of Turkmenistan has not published reliable data on poverty, inflation, and the real standard of living of the population. The lack of transparent statistics makes it impossible to objectively assess the social and economic conditions faced by citizens. At the same time, state institutions that should be responsible for developing and implementing social and economic policies are effectively deprived of independence and professional autonomy. In an authoritarian system, many decisions are made not on the basis of analysis and strategic planning but on political loyalty. As a result, citizens of the country face rising prices, declining purchasing power, and limited access to reliable information about the state of the economy. The Human Rights Platform “DAYANÇ Turkmenistan” calls on international organizations to pay greater attention to the real situation in the country and to urge the authorities of Turkmenistan to ensure transparency, openness of statistics, and respect for citizens’ rights to access information. Only transparency, government accountability, and independent institutions can become the foundation for sustainable development and for improving the lives of the people of Turkmenistan.
