The Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement “DAYANÇ” Turkmenistan considers it necessary to express its position regarding March 18, which is marked in the Russian Federation as the so-called “day of reunification” with Crimea. We emphasize that the events of 2014 cannot be regarded as a legitimate “reunification.” What took place was an annexation of territory in violation of international law, including the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. The Human Rights Platform “DAYANÇ” consistently advocates for respect for international law and states clearly: Crimea is part of Ukraine. The territorial integrity of Ukraine must be restored and respected in accordance with international norms and the obligations of states. The events that began in 2014 became a starting point for further escalation, ultimately leading to a large-scale armed conflict in Europe. Over the years, the consequences of these decisions have resulted in enormous human losses, destroyed lives, mass displacement, and a deep crisis in international security. We also draw attention to the danger of manipulation of narratives and the use of disinformation to justify such actions. Attempts to present the annexation as an “expression of the will of the people” undermine trust in international institutions and create a dangerous precedent. The Human Rights Platform “DAYANÇ” believes that the protection of human rights, transparency of authorities, and accountability to citizens are key conditions for preventing such crises. Silence, distortion of facts, and lack of open dialogue only worsen the situation and lead to further tragedies. We call on the international community to continue efforts to uphold international law, support the territorial integrity of states, and prevent further escalation of conflicts. The Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement “DAYANÇ” Turkmenistan will continue its work in defending human rights, justice, and international legal principles.
