The Human Rights Platform of the civil movement DAYANÇ Turkmenistan has sent an official letter to the Directorate General of Migration Management of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye following the March 11 meeting between representatives of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan and Türkiye’s migration authorities. According to publicly available information, the meeting took place in a videoconference format and focused on cooperation between the two countries in the field of migration. However, the official statements released afterward contained only general remarks about strengthening bilateral cooperation and developing migration relations, without providing details about the specific topics discussed. In response, the DAYANÇ Human Rights Platform submitted an official request to the Turkish authorities seeking further clarification about the outcomes of the discussions. In the letter, human rights defenders expressed their appreciation to the Republic of Türkiye for its attention to migration management and the protection of foreign nationals’ rights. At the same time, they requested clarification regarding which specific issues were addressed during the meeting. In particular, the letter raised the following questions: whether the situation of Turkmen citizens residing in Türkiye was discussed; whether any decisions were made aimed at improving the situation of Turkmen citizens; whether any changes to the visa regime for citizens of Turkmenistan are being considered; whether there may be changes to residence permit (ikamet) procedures; whether issues related to the protection of migrants’ rights and compliance with international human rights standards were discussed. According to the human rights platform, this information is extremely important for thousands of citizens of Turkmenistan who live and work in Türkiye. Many Turkmen migrants face difficulties related to legal status, documentation, and the protection of their rights. The DAYANÇ platform emphasized that transparency and openness in migration policy are essential for ensuring the safety, dignity, and legal protection of people. Human rights defenders expressed hope that they will receive an official response from the Turkish authorities and continue constructive dialogue on issues concerning the rights of Turkmen citizens.
