The release of investigative journalist Mahabat Tazhibekova from custody by the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Bishkek has become a significant event not only for Kyrgyzstan, but for the entire human rights community. After more than two years in detention, Mahabat was released under a travel restriction order. This followed the decision of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan to overturn the previous verdict and send the case for retrial based on newly discovered circumstances. Although the defense did not achieve full acquittal or the recognition of disputed expert conclusions as invalid, the very fact of her release is an important step forward. We view this decision as a victory for human rights defenders, international solidarity, and civil society. The case of Mahabat Tazhibekova has become a symbol of the importance of independent journalism and the right to freedom of expression. Her prosecution was linked to investigations involving high-level corruption. International experts had previously pointed to signs of arbitrary detention and violations of her rights. The support of the international community played a crucial role in this case. Mahabat herself expressed gratitude to organizations, including the United Nations, as well as to individuals from various countries — from Europe to North America — whose letters and solidarity helped her not feel alone. This once again proves: 👉 The power of solidarity works 👉 Information has real impact 👉 Civil society can change reality Address to the Citizens of Turkmenistan Today’s news is not only the story of one journalist. It is a message for all of us. In a context where in Turkmenistan: freedom of speech is restricted, activists are persecuted, there are no effective mechanisms for the protection of rights within the country, it is especially important to understand: 📌 No voice should remain alone 📌 Every shared word contributes to the fight for justice 📌 Every act of solidarity increases pressure on systems of injustice When society unites, it cannot be ignored. The Power of Unity — The Path to Justice The story of Mahabat Tazhibekova is a reminder that even in the most difficult conditions, change is possible. Yes, the path is long. Yes, the system may resist. But when there is: solidarity, international support, persistence of civil society, — justice becomes possible. Congratulations The Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement “DAYANÇ” / Turkmenistan expresses its sincere congratulations to Mahabat Tazhibekova on her release. We wish her strength, good health, and safe continuation of her work. We also express our support to all journalists, activists, and human rights defenders who continue their work despite pressure and threats. Conclusion Mahabat’s release is not the end of the struggle. It is a new stage. And an important reminder to all of us: Power lies in truth. Power lies in unity. Power lies in civil society.
