20 May — International Memorial Action for Farhad Meymankuliev

20 May — International Memorial Action for Farhad Meymankuliev

20 May — International Memorial Action for Farhad Meymankuliev On 20 May 2026, three years will mark since the deportation of Turkmen civic activist and blogger Farhad Meymankuliev from Türkiye to Turkmenistan. In connection with this date, preparations are beginning for an international memorial action dedicated to Farhad and to all cases of persecution against Turkmen civic activists outside Turkmenistan. We call on all concerned individuals, citizens of Turkmenistan, members of the diaspora, human rights defenders, journalists, bloggers, and activists to join the action on 20 May. Everyone can support this action in their own way. You can: — record a short video message in memory of Farhad; — publish his photograph on social media; — share his story; — write words of support; — organize a peaceful solo action; — stand near Turkish diplomatic missions in democratic countries; — share information with friends and acquaintances; — support the action through posts and reposts. Even one post matters. Even one video is a sign that a person has not been forgotten. Farhad Meymankuliev was one of the most well-known Turkmen civic activists outside Turkmenistan. After his deportation, many people viewed what happened as an alarming symbol of growing transnational repression against Turkmen activists and critics of the authorities. On 20 May, we want to show that the memory of Farhad continues to live on and that his name has not been forgotten. We expect broad support for this action from everyone who cares about the fate of Farhad Meymankuliev and the fate of other Turkmen activists. Farhad is not forgotten. 20 May 2026.
